Power of Attorney For Health Care or the Medical Power of Attorney allows a person to handle someone else’s health care decisions only in the chance that he or she may not be able to think for themselves. The designated person is called your Agent. Generally chosen are spouses, close friends, or relatives. It can’t be your doctor or persons employed in certain types of health care. It is important that the Agent is able to physically get to your bedside when needed, as he or she will need to meet face to face with providers. He or she must be persistent, articulate, and must be able to forcefully advocate for your values even in the face of honest opposition.
